What is an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Scan?
At Lakeway Eye Center, we use the Topcon Maestro 2 Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) system—advanced imaging technology that captures detailed, cross-sectional images of the eye. This allows us to examine the internal structures of the eye with exceptional precision.
OCT is essential for detecting and monitoring conditions affecting the back of the eye, such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma, by imaging the retina and optic nerve.
In addition, the Maestro 2 provides anterior segment imaging, enabling us to assess the cornea, lens, and angle structures at the front of the eye. This is especially useful for diagnosing dry eye disease, keratoconus, and for customizing specialty contact lens fittings.
The scan is non-invasive, painless, and takes just seconds to perform—helping us identify and track eye diseases early and deliver personalized, proactive care.
